LTFAI Talk Folk Art Dolls

LTFAI Talk Folk Art Dolls

Traditional Lithuanian folk art dolls are small, handmade figures that reflect rural life, traditional clothing, and seasonal customs. Often crafted from cloth, straw, wood, or yarn, they are dressed in regional costumes, complete with woven sashes, embroidered aprons, and carefully detailed headdresses. Some dolls represent everyday villagers—spinners, farmers, brides—while others appear in seasonal displays, especially at Christmas or Užgavėnės (the pre-Lenten festival). In the diaspore, folk art dolls have also been created in recent times reflecting the beauty and intricacy of the Lithuanian national costume.
